'When you receive a gift you give back and that’s what charities do for the people who need it the most. I was given the gift as a painter and my greatest joy is to get back. I rarely know who the beneficiaries are, but that’s the whole point of giving back", Dan Mackin.

Dan started working with The National Kidney Foundation of Florida in 1995. He met the Events Director, Richard Salick, in Cocoa Beach while doing a show. Richard ran the largest charity surfing event in the world over Labor Day weekend. Ever since, Dan has done the poster and t-shirt images every year and has donated artwork for their finale, “A Taste of Brevard.” Dan's artwork has raised well over two million dollars for their charity.
Dan has painted pianos for Natives Helping Natives, Helping People Succeed, and Project Lift, all supporting their fundraising endeavors.
Helping People Succeed in nearby Jensen Beach, Florida, serves parts of St. Lucie and all of Martin counties. Dan's artwork has been in their calendar for about 20 years, and he invented a charity event called “White Shirt Night.” The event gets around 200 people at a local restaurant; attendees pay $50 and receive a white shirt, four napkins or an apron, two drink tickets, and delicious appetizers. There are usually a dozen local artists at tables around the dining room, and attendees go from one to another, and the artists do sketches on the fabric in color Sharpies.
